The Eastern Cape, and Nelson Mandela Bay in particular, is the next stop for the South Africa’s largest football talent search initiative.
After two consecutive successful Ke Yona Team Search Try Outs in Mpumalanga and Free State, the Eastern Cape is the next stop for South Africa’s largest talent search initiative spearheaded by the experienced quartet of Shakes Mashaba, Khabo Zondo, Owen Da Gama and Mike Mangena. The Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is expected to host more than 500 aspiring footballers who are looking to partner with Nedbank to make their dreams happen on Friday, 1 May.
With the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium confirmed as the hosts of the 2015 Nedbank Cup Final, the Ke Yona hopefuls will have a dream opportunity of being on the pitch where Africa’s most lucrative cup final will be decided. The Ke Yona Team Search continues to make dreams happen in 2015. The selected team stands the chance of be scouted by top Premier Soccer League and National First Division sides from playing against the champions of the Nedbank Cup. Not only do they become soccer stars, Nedbank also contributes to the overall well-being of the players through financial lessons that are given to the boys in order for them to make sound financial decisions when becoming professional footballers.
Nedbank Ke Yona Team selector, who is also the head coach of the South African U23 squad is upbeat about the talent to come from the Eastern Cape.
“We are in full swing now with our team selection try outs. The past two provinces have already given us selection headaches with the abundance of talent in the country. The people of Port Elizabeth love the game of football which is why we are confident that we will see a lot of talented youngsters coming out to make their football dreams happen,” said an excited Da Gama.
Nedbank Senior Group Communications Manager, Nkosinathi Msiza has urged all aspiring footballers to come out and make their dreams happen.
“As we get ready to unearth the next football stars from the Eastern Cape, Nedbank is yet again proud to be spearheading a life changing initiative. We are a bank that enables people to make the things that really matter happen for them and through the Ke Yona Team Search, we continue in our goal as a bank of providing easily accessible platforms to our communities to make their dreams happen.
Players between the ages of 18 and 25 are encouraged to register for the trials by simply dialling *120*KEYONA# or *120*539662# and following the easy steps to enter.
Successful applicants are reminded to bring their Identity Documents when coming to the stadium for the trials.
