Maritzburg United recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday night.
The home side were the dominant side throughout the game and managed to get six shots on target, while Celtic failed to test United keeper Francis Chansa.
The Team of Choice netted the opener in the 38th minute when Nigerian forward Prince Olomu found the back of the Celtic net.
They maintained their advantage until the break and simply picked up where they left off as the tie resumed after the interval.
The hosts deservedly doubled their lead in the 73rd minute. Visiting captain Thabo Nthethe fouled Cuthbert Malajila inside the area to gift United a penalty. Midfielder Kurt Lentjies took the responsibility and slotted the spot-kick.
The victory bolsters United’s push for a top-eight finish, as they now lie 11th in the standings, three points behind eighth-placed Wits.
