The Music Department at Nelson Mandela University has the pleasure in hosting the renowned famous acapella group, Legato on 11 April 2018, 13:00, South Campus Auditorium.
Legato, a Port Elizabeth based music group and also students of the Music Department, will be performing at the next lunch hour concert series of 11 April. They are a versatile group performing in various genres such as Gospel, African Traditional Music, Jazz and Afro-Soul. The group members are Phiwokuhle Tyatya, Luyolo Stungu, Ntlantla Swana, Lwando Lukhuko and Milani Sixakwe.
In 2015, Legato entered a television music competition broadcast on SABC 1: The Sing-Off South Africa where Legato was the only group that represented the Eastern Cape. They managed 2nd place in this competition.
Legato has since performed on many stages in South Africa including NACMA Awards, National Arts Festival, Mandela Bay Festival and the Grahamstown Jazz Festival, sharing the stage with the likes of: Ringo Madlingozi, Kwesta, Zolani Mahola Freshly Ground, the late Sfiso Ncwane, and Grammy award winners, Lady Smith Black Mambazo.
Legator was nominated in the EspAfrica Young Legends Top 20 (Cape Town Jazz Festival) where they managed to get to the Top 10 of the competition last year.
The group is very excited to perform in front of their home crowd, as they will be jetting off to Turkey at the end of April, where they will be performing at various hotels for the next six months.
