Bloemfontein Celtic coach Clinton Larsen says his side “didn’t come to the party” in a 2-0 defeat to Maritzburg United.
United dominated the PSL tie on Wednesday, with ex-Celtic attacker Prince Olomu and Kurt Lentjies striking on either side of the break at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
“My team tonight didn’t come to the party, we were very poor,” Larsen told the league’s official website.
“The first goal was because we lost shape and we defended poorly. I don’t think we played very well, there were sporadic attacks, but we didn’t play well.
“We are still in a good position. I said beginning of the season that it is going to be very difficult for any side to get in the top eight this season. If you look at all the teams, the competition is very tough.”
Phunya Sele Sele are ninth in the standings ahead of Sunday’s visit of Santos, who humbled Orlando Pirates 3-0 in their midweek fixture.
