Lake Farm 15km Trail Run replaces 25km event

1 February 2013 By MyPortElizabeth

The Bukani Print Adidas Lake Farm Centre Charity Run in association with Die Burger and Bay FM has had to change course due to the recent floods in Port Elizabeth. “The lake on Lakeside road has reclaimed the land and the level has not dropped sufficiently for us to host the 25km part of the event,” said Achilles race co-ordinator Graham Channon. “The 10km and 5km events are still on the calendar and we have decided to include a 15km trail run that will take place on Lake Farm Centre’s neighbour’s property Royalston Exclusive Residential Estate,” added Channon.

The event starts and finishes at Lake Farm Centre on Saturday 16 March and is in aid of the 90 mentally challenged adults. The organizers together with the participants hope to raise enough funds to upgrade the generator and repair the telecommunications system at the Centre. “This is the highlight of the year for the residents and we are so grateful to Volkswagen, Nedbank, Continental and all the other sponsors and supporters who have been part of this event in one way or another for 18 years,” said the Principal of Lake Farm Centre Bennie Stadler.

The Lake Farm Charity 15km trail run starts concurrently with the 10km run/walk at 07:00 and the 5km fun run starts at 08:45.For animal lovers, the first 150 entries on the day of the 5km event, accompanied by their dogs will either receive a water bottle-bowl for their dogs or a ball thrower courtesy of Nedbank. The 1st 500 finishers in the 15km trail 10km and 1200 finishers in the 5km receive a handmade medal. All participants are eligible for lucky draw prizes including 20 pairs of Adidas running shoes and a R10 000 accommodation voucher from Kuzuko Lodge situated in the Addo Elephant National Park.

The Lake Farm Centre Coffee Shop will be expanded for the event and refreshments, treats, arts and crafts will be on sale.

Entry forms will be available from Action Sports, Brian Bands, The Footballer, Brocketts Sports (Uitenhage) and Trailbusters. For more information contact Graham Channon on 078 184 9723 or Bradley Mackenzie on 082 893 9772.
