Cape Town – Kings vice-captain Darron Nell says they have to become more aggressive in their approach if they are to defeat the Stormers in their Super Rugby clash in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Nell said they were “too timid” in their approach against the Bulls in Pretoria last week, when they were thumped 48-18.
“It was unsettling that we weren’t as aggressive in some of our tackles like in some games earlier in the season,” the lock told Die Burger’s website.
“The guys are really disappointed with the performance against the Bulls. If we want to win we know they have to regain that fighting spirit that made us famous.
“It’s those physical aspects that motivate players and lift their spirits. It creates a spark – and we simply have to get it back.”
Nell singled out the breakdowns as an area of specific importance, especially with a player like Deon Fourie amongst the Stormers’ ranks.
“We realise that and we know the Stormers are very good at the breakdowns. Our cleaners must be very well organised. The team that controls the breakdowns, controls almost 90% of the match.”
The clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium kicks off at 17:05 on Saturday.
