CAPE TOWN – Southern Kings captain Schalk Ferreira says they are under no illusion that their match against the Crusaders will be a daunting task.
The Kings face the seven time champions in Christchurch on Saturday, in their first game outside of Port Elizabeth.
Despite having the odds once again stacked against them, Ferreira says they are confident of putting up a good fight.
“We came into this competition knowing that we’re going to be the underdogs. We live up to that reputation and that we have a fighting chance”.
“We know the Crusaders are probably the best team in the history of Super Rugby but we believe in our systems and in our players”.
The Eastern Cape franchise has already lost two captains through injury this season, with Luke Watson and Darron Nel both picking up injuries that ruled them out of the tour.
“It’s not easy losing senior players. We have a lot of younger players who are eager to prove themselves though. That being said there’s still good leadership surrounding them so the younger guys have to step up to the plate.”
