The Eastern Cape has seen an increase in the number of kidnapping reports filed in the province over the last book year, which runs from the 1st of April 2011, to the 31st of March 2012.
The province saw an increase of 27.8 per cent in kidnapping cases reported between 2011/12 compared with the same period between 2010/11, with 336 cases reported, compared to the 263 cases previously.
the province ranked fourth based on the number of kidnappings reported.
Gauteng ranked the highest with 1,343 kidnapping cases reported in 2011/12, followed by KwaZulu Natal with 839 and the Western Cape with 517.
The Northern Cape had the lowest number of kidnappings reported, with just 43 cases recorded over the 2011/12 period.
