Paralympic breaststroke silver medalist Kevin Paul will be participating in the 41st Acquabear Gala, which runs from today through to Monday at the Newton Park swimming pool in Port Elizabeth.
It’s the biggest club gala in the Eastern Cape with 570 swimmers from 26 clubs from across the country taking part.
The age groups are from 10 and under – right through to open which is 17-years and older.
Along with Paul, Christopher Reid is the other leading swimmer from Acquabear taking part in his home gala. Reid is regarded as one of the top 16 year old swimmers in the country.
Paul said he had not been in the pool since the Paralympics but was looking forward to taking part in his club’s annual gala. “I will swim on all three days of the gala and will be showing support for the disabled swimmers and my Acquabear teammates,” he said.
There will be three sessions on each day of the gala. The morning session from 9am to 12pm will feature the senior heats and the disabled swimmers. The second session starts at 1pm and will focus on junior finals. The evening session from 6pm will feature the finals for the seniors who qualified earlier in the day.
