The next phase of the re-construction of John Tallant Road is about to be reached when it will be closed to the general public as a thoroughfare to the N2.
The road is expected to be closed in this week ending Friday 14 March 2014.
As part of the next phase of re-construction, the concrete block paving at the approaches to the N2 bridge are to be constructed in one portion by a specialist sub-contractor.
The bridge expansion joints are also to be renewed at the same time.
Traffic will be unable to travel through to the freeway, but will be required to make use of Grahamstown Road through Deal Party and access the N2 via Burman Road.
Alternatively traffic from Swartkops / Redhouse may access the N2 via Bluewaterbay, or make use of Uitenhage Road, via Perseverance Industrial Area.
Traffic will only be permitted to access Orion Carbons, Umicore or the Fish Water Flats water treatment works.
Road signs will be erected to indicate that there is no through road.
According to Aecom’s John Lochhead; “Depending on the progress achieved in carrying out this work, John Tallant Road is expected to re-open at the end of June 2014.”
