Echo Foundation is offering a R100,000 reward for information which will lead to the arrest and prosecution of suspects involved in the brutal murders of residents Hazel Huggins (March 2014) and John Berrington (October 2015) – R50,000 is being offered per case.
Mrs Hazel Huggins, 85, was found tied up on the floor and murdered. SAPS w/o Alwin Labans said her body was found Friday-morning March 28 2014 in the retirement village of Kruger Gardens in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth by a nurse who investigated at 07h30 after Mrs Huggins failed to show up for an appointment.
The body of retired Grahamstown farmer John Berrington was found at about 8.30am on 29 October 2015 after he failed to open his door for a domestic worker.
He was discovered still tied up on the bed in his cottage at the Duncan Ferguson Park retirement village in Seventh Avenue.
The Port Elizabeth pensioner had struggled fiercely with his killers as he was brutally beaten and strangled during a robbery at his Summerstrand retirement cottage early on 28 October 2015 – on his 85th birthday.
