James Somers Kirkwood
James Somers Kirkwood was one of the earliest auctioneers, who opened up business in the old buildings of the first Provincial Hospital in Rodney Street. He was the founder of the firm Kirkwood Marks.
Kirkwood was endowed with a keen sense of humour, backed by a sound education, and to listen to his witty remarks at one of his sales was entertainment in itself.
When Kirkwood retired from auctioneering he devoted his time to th edevelopment of the Sunday’s River Valley Scheme.
