The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has been granted an interdict, preventing striking municipal waste management truck drivers from threatening and intimidating other people.
Media Management Officer, Kupido Baron, says the order was granted by the Port Elizabeth High Court.
Drivers from all six of the municipality’s depots downed tools on Tuesday demanding that they be paid according to their driver’s licence codes. They also demanded to be paid a dirt allowance for dealing with dangerous and unhealthy waste products.
Baron says they are also prevented from driving any of the municipality’s vehicles without permission, blockading any of the municipality’s waste management landfill sites, drop-off centres or the depots and littering any refuse or waste on public roads or sidewalks.
