Greetings to all
I, Stanford Slabbert, would like to highlight the following points:
- I am standing as an independent candidate to be your councillor.
- I am committed to the principles of an open, free and fair society for all.
- I continue to work on Ward 1 issues and remain at your service.
- I spent seven years working for you and I want to continue serving you!
- Independent candidates throughout South Africa have been winning seats in by-elections
- You will have 110% of my effort in fighting Ward issues. Previously the DA expected me to spend 80% of my time on party matters, and 20% on Ward matters.
- If you vote for me, I will give you absolute effort, with no time wasted on party politics.
The Ward 1 by-election will be held on Wednesday, 2nd April, and I confirm that I am standing as an independent candidate, and I request your support on the big day. Voting is from 8am to 5pm.
As an independent, I am not bound to collaborate with any political party, instead I will strive to do what is best for the residents of Ward 1. When needed, I will negotiate with the different parties to get the best result for the Ward and its residents.
I will be unhindered by political affiliation in my battle against the ongoing corruption in the Metro.
Every vote will be important and I need your help and support on 2nd April.
How can you help? I need helpers and money to finance a successful campaign.
Election day teams:
There are four places to vote in the Ward: Cheshire Home, Mance Karate Club, Eulokholweni School and Riverside Hall. I need helpers at each VD and I aim to schedule two 4.5 hour shifts, 8am to 12.30pm, and 12.30pm to 5pm, plus a counter observer at each station. If you can help, even if only for a short time, please call or email me by noon on 24th March.
As an independent candidate, I need to finance a successful campaign and do not have access to party funding. All financial assistance should be directed to the account set up by my auditors, PW Harvey Co – Account holder: SM Slabbert acc By Election, Investec Private Bank, Account number: 50007 745 330, Branch code: 580105, Savings account.
Should you wish to make an alternative financial arrangement, please contact me. Any surplus funds, not used for the by-election, will be donated to Cheshire Home, in Summerstrand.
If you have a vehicle (preferably a bakkie) and a ladder, and can help put up election posters, Please call me!
Everyone is aware that I used to be a member of the DA, but was removed from the party. This matter is in the past as far as I am concerned, but if you really wish to know all the details, please contact me and I will be happy to explain it. Suffice to say that at no time was my dedication to my work – and to my Ward – in question. In fact, I also ran the only operational Ward Committee in the Metro!
In closing, Vote for me and you will get a hardworking, energetic and fit councillor who will have your interests at heart.
Some Ward 1 matters: Please report any service delivery problem to 0800 20 50 50.
Walmer SAPS Commander retires:
Many thanks to Gert van Zyl for his years of dedication. After steering the ship at Walmer SAPS for close to 30 years, Snr Supt Gert van Zyl retired at the end of November, and I thank him for his dedicated years of loyal service to the community. Best wishes to him and his family and may Gert enjoy a long and happy retirement.
Summerstrand – Rezoning of portion of Erf 2542, Gomery Road – Taxi Rank:
Probably the biggest threat to all residents living in this precinct is the NMMU’s application to create a large formalized taxi rank on Gomery Road, opposite the Woolboard, and very close to Cheshire Home. This is being monitored. We all need to fight this issue!!
Summerstrand Gomery Road / University Way Traffic Circle:
Since being opened in October, traffic flow issues have been reported and many taxi’s just drive straight through it, which could result in a head-on collision. Please exercise extreme caution when in this area. Sadly, the contractors have not fixed all the surrounding pavements which were damaged during construction, hampering accessibility of the Cheshire Home residents.
Summerstrand Beachfront storm-water outlet at the Beacon replaced:
The old and broken outlet pipe was finally removed and replaced with a smaller new outlet pipe, just before the summer season started. Thanks to the officials who had this work done.
Summerstrand – New disabled-friendly pavement constructed along Strandfontein Road:
This was the last project I signed off, before leaving office, and work started on 6 January and has been completed. When funds become available, it will be extended to Admiralty Way.
Cheshire Home, Summerstrand – new furniture shop:
Thanks to all who have supported the new furniture shop and please remember to donate any old or unwanted furniture. Cheshire will welcome all donations and they can collect items. They also need volunteers to assist in running their shops. Can you spare a few hours per day or per week? Call Les Kirkland on 041 – 583 2183.
Long grass throughout the Metro:
The debacle in November and December was because Metro officials did not appoint new tenders before the existing tenders expired. It was basically incompetence by our SCM division. Hopefully most areas are now back to normal. If not, let me know!!
Bell Bouy Swim Challenge this Saturday:
Get down to Pollok Beach this Saturday, 8th March, and watch the swimmers take on the ocean in the 5km Bell Bouy Challenge, starting at 8.30am. I will be in the line-up, aiming to complete my fifth Bell-Bouy swim.
Please remember to vote on Wednesday, 2nd April. Vote independent, vote me back into office!!
Working for you!
