The second of the Jazz’Afro Sundays @ The Barn sessions is the Alternative, Urban Traditional World Music Band Ikati Esengxoweni.
Ikati Esengxoweni was formed in 2015 by young hip Nelson Mandela Bay creatives Lark Wantu on Lead Vocals, Anam Manyathi formerly of Clique Claq on lead vocals, acoustic guitar Percussion as well as Ludwe Mglombane on vocals and acoustic guitar along with Nkwenkwenzi Mtila on Drums and Sandile Suka on Bass Guitar.
With their meteoric rise in the live performance scene, Ikati Esengxoweni was selected by IMEXSA – Independent Music Exporters South Africa, to perform, network and attend business conferences around the globe to countries such as Spain and Cannes in France. This year Ikati Esengxoweni has also performed at the Internationally acclaimed SA Indies Music week which was staged at Gold Reef Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg.
With the band having performed in a variety of festivals such as One Shushu Day in East London sharing the stage with Msaki, the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown July 2016, One Blood – One Africa Arts Festival in November 2016 and the Alliance Francaise – Congolese Dinner in December 2016.
