Wits have managed to collect 26 points in 12 Absa Premiership matches this season under the mentorship of Hunt, who has won the league title three times with SuperSport United.
“Obviously I consider ourselves as title contenders,” he said. “I mean we’re sitting pretty at the top with 26 points and we got ourselves into that position.”
The Clever Boys’ most memorable game this season was when they came back from two goals down to register a 3-2 victory over Golden Arrows back in November.
Hunt has forged the perfect balance of experienced and young players in his squad as they are vying for league glory and continental silverware.
“When we start playing in January, February, in the CAF (Confederation Cup) and Nedbank (Cup), our squad will getter better. We just need mileage in our legs and to play. You saw the last time when we played three in a row and we have won them all. By the third game we were flying. So that is all I think we need.”
Hunt knows that only hard work will help them achieve all their goals in the second half of the season. He is aware of the strenuous task ahead of him and his charges.
“I’ve been in this situation many times and I know what takes,” Hunt added.
“It’s certainly going take hard work. There is going to be games where you have to try and grind out results. It’s not going be pretty, but who said it’s going to be pretty?”
Wits’ first match in 2016 is against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday.
