The Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (DASO) in the Eastern Cape today launched a Hungry Minds campaign at the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in Port Elizabeth. This follows the university‘s announcement that allowances from the National Students Financial Aids Scheme (NSFAS) will only be fully paid during the month of October.
The reason behind this was the inability of NSFAS to load all qualifying students’ allowances on time. Allowances should have been paid out in January, but still students go hungry.
The campaign therefore seeks to raise donations for 500 to 1000 food parcels that will last hungry students for about a month.
DASO is calling upon the public, businesses and society as a whole to help kick-start our Hungry Minds Campaign through donating food items that will assist in the creation of these food parcels.
We have identified the Democratic Alliance’s Provincial Head Offices as the drop off point for donations. The address is: Corner of Mount Road and Diaz Avenue, North End.
DASO continues to fight for no student to be left behind.
