The Hiv-Aids plan adopted by the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality some time ago is still without a budget and no progress has been made to implement it.
Now mayor Zanoxolo Wayile is in hot water about the stalled programme set up to deal with the pandemic in the Mandela Bay area, where the rate of infection is the highest in the province.
Acting municipal manager Themba Hani made the shocking revelation, which is contained in a report by the municipal public accounts committee, about the status of the region’s HIV-Aids plan.
Pressure is on the mayor to make a political decision with regard to funding for the plan and to commit to a date for the finalisation of an implementation plan.
The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality will meet on Thursday to look into the report.
