Port Elizabeth police on Friday said that they have arrested a 27 year-old suspect for hijacking following a two incidents that took place in KwaNobuhle and KwaDwesi townships in Port Elizabeth.
“It is alleged that on Tuesday, the victim was driving into his property in KwaDwesi when he was confronted by two unknown men, who threatened him with a firearm. The men then drove off in the white VW Polo,” police said.
“In a similar incident, on Wednesday, another victim from KwaNobuhle alleged that he was seated in his maroon VW Polo, outside his house, when he was also accosted by two men, who threatened him with firearms. The two suspects then drove off with his vehicle.”
The SAPS Metro Hijacking Task Team followed up on information received later that day about the possible whereabouts of the suspects.
“A suspect was spotted filling up the alleged stolen maroon VW Polo at a garage in William Moffett Road, in Port Elizabeth. He was arrested and following his arrest, the white VW Polo was also recovered near the parking lot of a shopping centre.
“The suspect has been linked to both cases of hijacking,” police said.
He will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates Court on Monday, facing two cases of vehicle hijacking.
