The third speaker at the TEDxPortElizabeth Salon event on the afternoon of 9 September 2017 at the AtrEc Gallery in Target Kloof will be Sakhumzi Nyedwana, Sakhumzi is a visual artist from Motherwell and uses his technical ability by means of paints and brushes to explore new ideas around his culture, history and the journeys of his everyday life. He will be sharing his views about the “Mother Tongue”

Sakhumzi’s artistice group is called Hand in Hand and is described as a team that do voluntary work to help benefit the public and to gain them experience in public interests and at the same time finding ways to help “bridge in the gap” where necessary.
Hand in Hand whom have also been making waves in the arts and culture sector by creating exhibitions to attract and empower not only the youth but their art has reached international boundaries. Hand in Hand is ran by Sakumzi Nyendwana a self-empowered visual artist from Motherwell Township Port Elizabeth, Would’ve Eastern Cape, whom has also been involved in numerous festivals such as the National arts festival, exhibitions and various art competitions. In 2012 he changed his own space into an art studio, and named it “Hand in Hand Visual art studio”, which he co-owns with his younger brother, Msindisi Nyendwana. With their studio located in the township, it attracts local visitors and tourist from all over the world.
Sakumzi Nyendwana, aged 31 male from Motherwell Township Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. He is a self-empowered Visual artist who started the love of art in early 1994 at lower primary school in Grade 3 2007. He decided to approach arts organisations, galleries and museums around the city to showcase his talent and enter art competitions/exhibitions.
Sakumzi said “it was wonderful to make contact with other artists, through that I were exposed to training Opportunities, Competition, Exhibition, Media Interviews and Festivals.
2016 /2017, Sakumzi and Msindisi Nyendwana became the finalists of the Multi-faith calendar, image competition called “Love and Compassion and” “Power of Inspiration”.

2017, June 16, They appeared on SABC News speaking with the youth of south Africa about the importance of history in our present time.
2017 June, Sakumzi exhibited 1 artwork at Artec gallery and the theme was Salvage
2017 June, Msindisi exhibited 1 artwork at Albany Historical Museum and the theme was Home of Legends
2017, April, Sakumzi and Msindisi was hired to curate and hang the kids exhibition at Athenaeum hub
2017, January, Would’veSakumzi and Msindisi Managed to opened the first ever art studio in history of Motherwell township and the studio managed to attract tourists from locally and abroad
2016, December, they exhibited two artworks at Gallery Noko during the “2016 New Now Next” contemporary arts competition and Sakumzi sold 1 piece and also won the third prize with his wooden curved collage titled: Cradock four.

2015 May, Sakumzi was selected by star media to participate on a soccer related mural creation for Nedbank advert
2014, They bring back to the community by transforming once an illegal dumpsite into a tourist destination that attracted more than 50 tourists from all over the globe.
2013, February, They was interview by the SABC 1 news at his own studio in Motherwell and the theme was Afcon because by that time Sakumzi was teaching children how to create a soccer hat called, Would’veMakarapa
2013 June, Sakumzi and Msindisi exhibited 3 artworks at Albany historical museum in Grahamstown and the theme was woman our treasure.
2012 November, He exhibited 1 artwork at NMM art Museum and the theme was Who’s who?.
2012, January, Would’veSakumzi started bringing back to the community by teaching art to children from under privilege homes so that they can gain skill and learn in the art industry.
2012, June, Sakumzi exhibited 2 artworks at Albany historical museum and the theme was My Freedom My Expression
2010, June-July, Sakumzi sold 8 art works to tourist at Nelson Mandela bay Stadium During the 2010 FIFA world cup in South Africa.
2015 September, Sakumzi and Msindisi won a first prize in Visual art Category for public arts in MDAF arts festival in Raymond Mhlaba sport centre

TEDxPortElizabeth’s mission is ‘Local Ideas Worth Spreading in Nelson Mandela Bay’ and they are currently the only license holder of TEDx events in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

- Sam Beynon, MA (Political Science) graduate from Nelson Mandela University has appeared on the SABC 1 TV show Future Leaders Season 4 and One Day Leader Season 3, will explore the concept of “Choice, Chances and Changes”
- Rushka Johnson, an environmental activist, seed freedom guardian, permaculture enthusiast and organic vegetable farmer will tackle the topic “A Seed in Time”.
