JOHANNESBURG – The Gupta family on Thursday denied reports that one of their Johannesburg homes got robbed.
Police say they arrested a domestic worker at a Houghton home belonging to the “Gupta family”.
The domestic worker was found in possession of stolen goods on Wednesday.
Police said the gang fled with cash, goods and jewellery, all worth more than R1 million.
Family spokesperson Gary Naidoo says there’s been some confusion because the Guptas don’t even own a property in Houghton.
“I can categorically state that it wasn’t a home belonging to the Gupta family. It could be another Gupta – there’s many Guptas. I don’t think they should assume if there’s a surname belonging to a prominent businessman that it’s always them.”
The 26-year-old woman will appear in a Johannesburg court on Friday.
Police say they will respond to the latest claim later on Thursday evening.
