The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) – Department of Public Relations and Communications Studies and Boomtown Strategic Brand Agency are collaborating for the fourth consecutive year to encourage practical learning. In 2009 a need was identified for partnerships between the University and the private sector for students to be exposed to the industry and its workers, much earlier in their academic career and not only after they have graduated and seeking employment.
The initiative includes workshops hosted by Boomtown on a quarterly basis as well as a visit from the to the Boomtown offices. Since 2009, the objective of the visit was to inform students about Public Relations from an agency’s perspective, by introducing them to Boomtown and its new office building.
