Graham Rowntree calls for spirit of Port Elizabeth

24 November 2012 By Google

GRAHAM ROWNTREE is calling for the spirit of Port Elizabeth to end England’s six-year wait to sink the Springboks.

England’s forwards coach revealed how the squad vowed to stop the rot in the Third Test of their South Africa summer tour.

But England missed two penalties with the score 14-14 and did not end a run that goes back to November 2006.

Rowntree said: “It’s high time we beat this nation and we should have five months ago.

“That last hour before kick-off in Port Elizabeth was the last hour before the last game of that Test series. We were out to put a few things right, and that’s where we are now.

“We lost two Tests on that tour.

“We had shown some glimpses of potential in both games, finishing strongly.

“But we gave ourselves a mountain to climb by conceding tries.

“That last hour before the third game, we decided that wasn’t going to happen again and we have to recreate that intense atmosphere.

“I want to see the same as we saw then, that pure desire for it not to be a defeat again.”
