It is the duty of all the citizens in the Rep of South Africa to protect and preserve our fragile democracy. We the citizens of this country should portray patriotism and be pro-active in identifying unscrupulous acts against our country that are determined to undermine the Newly found Rainbow nation.
It is not tolerable that we should continue to experience sabotage from indiscreet “officials who diligently pursue their own agenda’s above national priority. Almost two decades since the first elections and we are still fighting corruption and croaked (partisans) government officials who are intent on destroying our democracy, by continuing abetting foreigners to enter our country with false documentation, in order to gain Permanent citizenship.
The Department of Home Affairs in Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape is such a phenomenon where corruption is prevalent against all odds, to cripple the government of its mandate. It has been noted that an Ethiopian man got married illegally to a South African woman by promising her with a monthly stipend of R500 just to be his wife ‘till death do us apart; hopefully he will still be around long enough to fulfill his promise.
Has our country deteriorated to an extent that “poverty has resulted in people having to commit immoral acts against their own country? There are certain guidelines on the Government Gazette that clearly illustrates the conditions and requirements under which a foreigner or an asylum seeker should be meet before he/she can gain excess into this country and obtain citizenship, and if such ACTS are contravened by committing an offence they are punishable by law.
Section 20 of this Act stipulates that a foreigner can be issued with a Permanent Resident Status, “only he/she is the Spouse of a citizen or resident provided that the Dep of Home Affairs is satisfied that a good faith spousal relationship exists. What documentation or proof can be produced to determine the status of such a relationship if it is really active.
Government officials in all our Departments should start reinforcing measures to curb the increase of crime and illegal activities in all spheres, and be intent on providing efficient service that is discreet and unchallenged, such that there is trust between the citizens of this country and our government. Such acts of xenophobia are the result of such actions perpetuated by greed and selfish egos.
It is no wonder that there is an influx of immigrants in our communities recently in the townships, especially in the Eastern Cape where most of the businesses have been taken over by foreigners. Most companies these days employ foreigners as cheap labour; it should be noted that the Immigration Bill has certain clauses that protect this country from illegal practices.
The people of South Africa are starving to death due to high rate of unemployment that permeates to poverty; there is lack of Efficient Service Delivery whilst there are government employees who are draining away the Tax-payers money for their selfish means, it is time now that we show true patriotism and be resilient against any corruption and criminal activities in our society, especially in the government departments.
We as the “nation have moral obligation in fulfilling the “ideals and dreams of our comrades who fought desperately (with blood and sweat) to free us from the previous regime. The land of our forefathers is crying for justice and the restoration of our Human Rights to, be truly free from any injustice and exploitation.
