The April NAAMSA new vehicles sales showed a decrease of 10 913 units vs March 2015. Total industry volume was 44 503 units, down 3.3 percent vs April 2014. The main factor behind the significantly lower sales this April was the number of public holidays.
General Motors South Africa (GMSA) recorded total sales of 4169 units and an overall market share of 9.4 percent. Despite the significant drop in sales compared to March 2015, Opel, Chevrolet, and Isuzu continue a positive trend in 2015, increasing market share every month so far this year.
“Opel is back! We can see clear evidence that South African consumers are embracing the new Opel products. So far, Opel volumes are up 90 percent compared to the same period in 2014 driven by the all-new ADAM, Mokka, and Corsa. In fact, despite the limited selling days in April, this was our best Opel passenger dealer sales month since September of 2008. Corsa led the push with our best dealer Corsa sales month since January 2009. ” says Brian Olson, Vice President Vehicle Sales, Service, and Marketing GM Africa.
Other notable performers were; Chevrolet Utility, 1 352 units, Isuzu KB 988 units giving GMSA and overall light commercial vehicle share of 19.5% percent.
The locally manufactured Chevrolet Spark recorded sales of 250 units followed closely by the newly launched Chevrolet Cruze at 246 units.
