The Donkin Reserve, located off Belmont Terrace, Central, and overlooking the city, was proclaimed an open space in perpetuity by Sir Rufane Donkin.
This Garden of Remembrance on the Donkin Reserve was launched on Friday 15 August 2014 by Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to honour all councillors deceased since 1994.
The remembrance plaque that you see here is for Rocky Ridgeway who passed away in October 2010. Rocky was husband to Olga and father to Brady, Rex and Beth Botha.
In the garden, a plaque and a tree representing each councillor was erected and planted, as a symbol of remembrance.
Speaking at the launch of the Garden of Remembrance on the Donkin Reserve, House Chairperson of Parliament, Cedrick Frolick, said that the garden will be a living legacy for the work councillors have done in the metro.
The Councillors are all from different political backgrounds whose deaths range from illness to car accidents and even assassination.
