The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality thanks residents in areas affected by power interruptions for their patience and understanding. The electricity interruptions widely experienced in different areas of the Metro were caused by the gale force winds that hit the Metro earlier yesterday, inter alia causing trees to topple over and fall on power lines. The Municipality wishes to assure the residents who have been affected that repair teams are hard at work in different areas of the Metro to restore the power supply however, because of the high number of areas affected, not all areas will have their power restored immediately.
The Municipality apologises for the inconvenience caused and wishes to make an urgent appeal to residents not to touch or approach the broken conductors or power lines, as they may be live and dangerous.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality also advised that the heavy gale force winds yesterday caused homes in informal settlements in Chris Hani and an area near Malabar to catch fire and have also blown off a number of roofs. The Municipality’s Fire and Disaster Management Services were on the scene, rendering services and giving support.
