In life you get statistics and lies. Statistics are basically lies that people pay a lot of money for so that they can pull the wool over the eyes of other people.
The citizenry of South Africa must be congratulating themselves at having, once again, pulled the wool over the eyes of more than 700 000 matriculants.
Every matric certificate should come with a warning that states:
If you actually think that a pass rate of 30% is worth something and will get you a decent job then you are dumber than we thought! Job recruiters are looking for candidates to correctly answer 100% of the questions posed to them in a job interview!”
As a country we are doing our youth a serious disservice by creating the expectation within them that a pass rate of 30% is acceptable.
By continuing to make things easier for our future leaders we are setting ourselves up for a monumental fail.
