If you have a Gypsy hiding in your back yard, under a tarpaulin in your garage or just meandering along trying to look inconspicuous….
Now is the time to find the sails for your beloved old Gypsy and enter the challenge to sail in the 4th Gypsy Africans Regatta at the Redhouse Yacht Club on 23 and 24 January 2016.
The unique to SA Gypsy dinghy which was designed and manufactured in South Africa is an easy to sail boat which is ideally suited to beginners and family sailing. The Gypsy dinghy has a strong fibre-glass hull, an integral centre board and an unstayed two piece mast
Sails consist of a Mainsail and a Jib each of which are hoisted and controlled by a simple system of ropes and pulleys.
The Gypsy is 3.96m long with a beam on 1.65m, weighing 75kg and boasts a controllable sail area of 8.5m2.
Normally the Gypsy dinghy is supplied with a launching dolly which slides onto an high speed trailer, making it one of the easiest two person boats to transport.
Gypsy dinghies are available second hand at reasonable prices ranging from R3500 to R8000 dependent upon condition and equipment level.
Redhouse Yacht Club is extending an invite to all dinghy sailors to sail in their annual Interclub, especially Gypsy sailors to sail in the 4th Gypsy Africa’s. There are Gypsy’s out there that are hiding in gardens garages that need to get back on the water so please bring them along, the sailing is great on the river. Sailing will be on the Swartkops river at Redhouse outside Port Elizabeth.
The crews of the first eight Gypsy Dinghy’s to enter will receive a free t-shirt.
