Residents responded well to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s call to participate at the IDP/Budget consultative meetings last night with the Cecil Kapi Hall full and more than 160 people turned up at the Walmer Town Hall. Although lesser numbers were recorded elsewhere the meetings were also interactive and vibrant with residents taking up issues of importance in their wards.
Issues rose touched on more frequent community participation, youth related issues, housing, budgetary matters and service delivery.
The good turn-out bodes well for today’s meetings that start with a session at the Port Elizabeth City Hall at 2pm and the meetings at 6pm are at Jeff Masemola Hall, Uitenhage Town Hall, Babs Madlakane and the Raymond Mhlaba Sport Centre.
Leading the meeting at Newton Park Library, Deputy Executive Mayor Thando Ngcolomba called on people of Nelson Mandela Bay to make use of the opportunity to take charge of the IDP and Budget public participation meetings so that the service delivery needs of their wards can be prioritized in the budgetary process.
Chief Whip Joy Seale led the meeting at Walmer Town Hall, Cllr Andile Mfunda took charge of proceedings at the Cecil Kapi Hall.
