CAPE TOWN – Eyewitness News has learnt that Jayde Panayiotou’s husband is the 28-year-old suspect who was arrested for her murder.
Several sources said Panayiotou’s spouse was taken in for questioning late on Wednesday night and is due to appear in court on Monday.
Eastern Cape police made two arrests and the first suspect, Thando Siyoli (31) appeared in court this morning and police are adamant they have a prima facie case against both.
Police said Siyoli was charged with abduction and murder while Panayiotou’s husband will be charged on Monday when he appears in court.
Panayiotou’s body was found on the outskirts of a Uitenhage township last week after she had been reported missing.
Police also confirmed that robbery has been ruled out as a motive for Panayiotou’s murder.
The woman was abducted from outside her home before 7am last Tuesday, while she was waiting for her daily lift to work.
Panayiotou was a junior grade teacher at Riebeek College Girls’ High School in Uitenhage.
Family, friends and colleagues gathered at the Mater Dei Catholic Parish in Port Elizabeth to bid farewell to the popular teacher on Tuesday.
