Port Elizabeth based racing team, Durrant Motorsport, just returned from the Simola Jaguar Hillclimb 2017, that took place in the seaside town of Knysna over this past weekend. The Hillclimb is an annual event that attracts motorsport enthusiasts from all over our country and in fact the world, with competitors from the USA and Europe gracing the track this year. Durrant Motorsport running the hill for the first time, took the Market Square Volkswagen backed Reynard to compete. The 2 litre 4 cylinder VW engine punched well above its weight class and managed to stay at the sharp end of the leader-board against much more powerful race cars.
The Durrant Motorsport team comprised entirely of local part-timer motorsport enthusiasts, included the following; Team Manager, local businessman Phillip Weise. Software and systems engineer, locally bred Priory scholar and NMMU graduate engineer Raymond Pothier. Gearbox specialist, and ex-VW Motorsport team member Allan Papman. Local engineering technician and ex-Rally mechanic Lukas van der Westhuizen. Local Dispatch based engineering fitter, Jan Bezuidenhout. Local engineer and businessman Phillip Quinton. Local engineer and businessman, driver Garth de Villiers.
Results for the Simola Jaguar Hillclimb 2017; 1st in Class. 4th in category, 10th Overall. Best time of the weekend 42.6 seconds.
