Good service in U’hage
I RECOMMEND the Uitenhage licensing department to anyone who, like me, dreaded the thought of having to wait for hours in queues to renew my driver’s licence.
Helenvale youth need recreation outlet
THE New Afroteens have just completed the fifth leg of their township tour, with a performance in Helenvale.

What’s happened to funds for sewerage?
THE letter by Elza van Lingen, “Kouga must be put under administration” (March 2), hits the nail on the head. This municipality has the most shocking record of abuse of residents’ rates.
Already potholes on new R72 road
A GOOD road infrastructure is the lifeblood of this province. It is imperative that our roads are properly monitored and maintained.
Disgusting behaviour seen
I THOUGHT I was imagining things on my way to work when the “not so young” driver of a taxi with passengers sitting inside got out of his vehicle and relieved himself in full view of oncoming traffic just after 8.10am on Monday in Springfield Road, opposite Fig Tree Fresh Food Lovers Market.
PAC concentrates on internal issues
THE PAC of Azania in the metro wishes to inform its members and the public at large about its position on the by-elections in wards 15, 26 and 55 to be held on March 28.
Caught in CSA crossfire
AT last we have heard a verdict from the Nicholson commission (“Dwindling support for Majola”, March 12).
Ad is a load of blasphemous bull
THE latest Red Bull ad on TV is disgusting. I can’t believe no-one in production, advertising or management thought it was inappropriate and blasphemous.
Thanks for good work
THIS is to thank Col Botha and his team from the Walmer police station, Atlas and ADT for their quick response to the housebreaking experienced by my daughter and her two babies in the early hours of Thursday March 1. You all went above and beyond the call of duty.

Can no longer bully us
FW de Klerk can keep quiet for a long time in the national discourse – I suppose he can afford to do so for then his foundation makes all the noise for him when it feels it needs to – but he has nothing encouraging to say. By gains made he means the status quo, and this thing of minorities in South Africa – and then when it suits his ilk, to say we are all South Africans is galling to say the least.
Can’t ignore how tik destroys lives
THE tik drug scourge is destroying our communities like a plague. It is all around us and cannot be ignored any longer.
Red Location a place for communities to meet
IN response to Mpumezo Ralo’s letter (“Museums unsure of function”, March 7), I would like to offer my perspective on the Red Location Museum’s perceived identity confusion.
Nationalisation will not benefit the people
Crime tip not acted upon
A WHILE back I overheard some people talking about a certain person who had stolen the rhino horn that was on display at the Reinet House Museum in Graaff-Reinet. At first I didn’t believe it, but then curiosity got the better of me and I phoned the museum to find out if the horn had been stolen.
Thanks for help in search for pupil
I REFER to the article, “Search launched after pupil goes missing on beach trail” (March 9). While the article was not totally factually correct, as your reporter did not contact the school for the correct information at any time, we still wish to thank all the many well-wishers who contacted the school.
Proposed laws impossible to police
WITH freedom comes the individual’s responsibility to make decisions regarding his/her interest and the requirement to face the consequences. This scares people and many look to others to do their thinking for them.
Shocking to see unsightly dump near tourist spot
ON Friday March 9, I was invited by DA activists and NMBM councillor Knight Mali to do door-to-door visits in New Brighton as part of the DA’s programme for the Ward 15 by-election.

TO the councillor for Malabar, please have the deep trench on the corner of Haworthia and Calendula repaired as soon as possible. It is a traffic hazard and is damaging residents’ vehicles.
Agency must fulfil its mandate: assist youth
ALLOW me to express my disappointment with National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) chairman Ayanda Matiti misusing taxpayers’ money for his political agenda.
Nothing done to fix N2 lights
IT is strange there have been no reports in your paper nor statements from the municipality as to the state of the lighting poles along the N2.
We should all work for country
Ethics seem scarce in Bhisho
IN response to the budget speech by Finance MEC Phumulo Masualle (“Too many top dogs in Bhisho”, March 7), accountability, sincerity and continuous ethical governance seem to be scant in the Bhisho administration.
Why do we need labour brokers?
I READ about the strike to call for the banning of labour brokers and understand the argument that people’s rights can be abused (“Paralysing protest”, March 8). This being said, I must ask why do we need labour brokers in the first place?
What progress with Vatala case?
Show the positive aspects of our area
I HAVE seen many movies made about the northern areas, press coverage as well and they all have been so negative lately. We are being depicted as gangsters, thieves, murderers and rapists.
Art lovers, get involved in our society
IN response to the letter from Sebastian Arrow about the latest Same Size Same Price No Signature exhibition at the artEC Gallery (“Uninspired work exhibited”, March 8), your reader does have a point, although to be fair to the curators, I must point out that, in an open exhibition, the curators work with what they are given. If a percentage of the entries lack originality, so will the show.
Run Apple train to give public what they want
I AM encouraged that there is going to be a viability study to investigate whether the Apple Express can be brought back (“New bid to get Apple train rolling”, March 1).
Development deviates from metro plan
I REFER to Eskimo’s letter, “Campaign not in best interests of residents” (February 29). I hope my letter will bring clarity regarding my position on the proposed development on erf 329, Lorraine.

WHAT about people who have been evicted from bonded houses? I’m one of them with kids and no place to stay. I am a widow and a domestic worker.
Concentrate on poll wins
OUR personal differences should not disturb campaigning for the March 28 by-elections, for the sake of our organisation, the ANC. I knew even before the death of comrades Noncedo Ngqondi, Mxolisi Gumenge and Phumeza Lose we had a slim majority in the council, so we must make sure we regain our outright majority in the council of this municipality.
Snatching of baby shows Dora Nginza negligence
THE snatching of a newborn baby from Dora Nginza Hospital is not only disturbing but very wrong, inexcusable and totally unacceptable (“Baby stolen from hospital”, March 1).
Cyclists a selfish bunch
DO all cyclists suffer from dyslexia and colour blindness, or is it just the inconsiderate few who frequent the Port Elizabeth beachfront?
