Nelson Mandela Bay’s unique beach event, the aQuellé Ocean Racing Series, concluded Season 13 on Sunday morning (today) with just over 300 participants taking full advantage of the perfect beach conditions ahead of next weekend’s premier triathlon event.
Season 13 kicked off in October 2017 and took place on mostly alternate Sunday mornings to include a total of 11 race days this season, almost all being in near perfect conditions. The most popular event this season having been the 1km Ocean Swim with 978 entries followed by the Kids 1km Beach Run for 12 years and under with 756 entries and the 2km Ocean Swim the 3rd most popular with 726 entries this summer. Increasing in popularity is the 400m Ocean Swim which this season attracted 390 entries.
On Monday evening the overall Series champions and age group winners will be announced and honoured at a vibey prize giving ceremony to be held at New Cafe, Boardwalk, from 6pm. The evening will include over R10,000 in lucky draw prizes including a Flying Fish patio cooler, a R500 Caltex Fuel voucher, a Blu_Smooth top of the range wetsuit and a whopping 43? LED panel sponsored by Panasonic in Walmer.
