The Southern Kings are on the verge of playing their final Vodacom Super Rugby match in a historic clash against the Toyota Cheetahs which will see both sides bidding farewell to the competition which will be narrowed down from 18 to 15 teams next season.
With the Southern Kings having enjoyed good support from the people of Nelson Mandela Bay and the Eastern Cape throughout the season, the team and the municipality made one last call for supporters to fill the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday night when the Vodacom Super Rugby match takes place from 19h00.
Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism Chief Executive Officer, Mandlakazi Skefile, joined Southern Kings Chief Operations Officer, Charl Crous, Head Coach Deon Davids and other members of the team’s management as the #FillOurStadium flag was hoisted below the famous large South African flag at the Donkin Reserve.
The Southern Kings’ #FillOurStadium campaign during the side’s previous two home matches – against the Cell C Sharks and Brumbies – have been successful, seeing a turnout of over 20 000 fans at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on both occasions.
The campaign has been greatly supported by Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Councillor Athol Trollip.
“We are grateful for the support we have received from the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality and tourism, who have allowed us to use some of our landmarks in the Bay to promote our #FillOurStadium campaign,” Crous said.
“We would also like to thank our supporters for coming out in previous matches and urge all fans to flock to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium once again, and encourage them to purchase tickets early.”
The encounter between the Southern Kings and Toyota Cheetahs should see both sides producing the entertaining brand of rugby they have been known for in the competition.
“This is the last match of the season and both sides will want to end things off with a bang,” Crous added.
“We have seen an exciting brand of rugby from both teams, and so we can expect another spectacle of rugby before these sides venture off into a new era and new international competition.”
Tickets to the match are available at the Stadium Ticket Office on Prince Alfred Road, as well as TicketPro online (www.ticketpros.co.za), and selected TicketPro outlets (CNA, Edgars, Edgars Active, JetMart, PostNet, Caltex and Engen).
