This after the University received four different petitions from various student formations, the latest of which was handed over at a mass meeting in the Kraal at lunch-time today. University management have undertaken to work through the various demands and provide a response to students by Monday.
The bid by university management to resume operations on Monday were met with resistance from the students, who are determined to continue their protest action in favour of free higher education.
Depending on the students’ response, and based on NMMU‘s assessment of the situation on the ground, the University may be compelled to implement drastic measures going forward, including possibly suspending lectures until the safety of all students and staff can be guaranteed.
A further communication on the way forward is expected before the close of business on Monday.
