Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Councillor Benson Fihla thanked the family of the late Ward 56 Councillor, Linda Kwitsana for the sacrificing her to serve the people of the Nelson Mandela Bay.
Mayor Fihla was speaking at the funeral service of the late ward 56 councillor held at the Raymond Mhlaba sport Centre on Monday, December 30, 2013. Hundreds of people from across the city predominantly ANC, SACP and Cosatu members attended the service.
Councillor Kwitsana passed on at her Motherwell home on Saturday, 21 December after a long illness. “On behalf of the people of the city, I say thank you for your sacrifice. We have also lost a daughter, mother and a sister who never betrayed the plight of the poor,” he Executive Mayor Fihla.
The funeral programme was directed by the Speaker of Council Maria Hermans.
Former Deputy Executive Mayor and current ANC Woman’s League (ANCWL) Provincial Secretary Nomadewuka Sihlwayi also addressed the funeral on behalf of the League. All the speakers praised Kwitsana for her respect for the organization and her commitment to change people’s lives for the better.
“We will always remember her for her enthusiasm and willingness to learn and commitment to the people, more especially the poorest of the poor will. She was a true people’s volunteer,” Executive Mayor Fihla said.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Reverend Zweli Tom said the family was at peace, knowing that their daughter worked with honesty and commitment all her life before and while in council.
