MyPE has been running a low key campaign informing residents about the dangers of manganese ore pollution and asking affected residents to estimate their losses due to manganese over the lifetime that their assets have been affected.
Recently we also followed the money trail back from poor old TNPA who receive the most flak from civil society and residents and identified the source of the Manganese in mining giants Assore, Assmang and African Rainbow Minerals as also contributing to our woes. The four heavyweights from these mining companies – Desmond Sacco, Patrice Motsepe, Cyril Ramaphosa and Max Sisulu – should also come in for some flak.
Anyway, after a number of discomforting phone calls and veiled threats of legal action from the people lower down in the Manganese Ore feeding chain, we received an e-mail late last night from Cyril Ramaphosa in response to our recent posts highlighting citizens dissatisfaction with the slow pace exhibited by TNPA in moving the terminal.
