The Eastern Province Rugby Union has acknowledged that confusion exists around the staging of the Craven Week Trials for High Schools this weekend in Graaff Reinet, by the EP High Schools Rugby Association.
Reports reaching EPRU indicate that it is being suggested that the Union has cancelled said trials.
The EPRU would like to set the record straight by informing all parties that this is not at all the case, and that the EPRU has not cancelled any activities surrounding the staging of these trials.
To date, the EP High Schools Rugby Association has failed to submit its audited financial statements to the Union. In order for the EPRU to allocate funding to its associates, these audited statements need to have been received by the EPRU office.
In the absence of proper audited financial statements, the Union is not prepared to consider any funding to the EP High Schools Rugby Association.
EP Rugby’s President, Cheeky Watson said: “I wish to reiterate that the EPRU fully supports and endorses sport in general among the youth, and Rugby in particular, as it is the very foundation of our Union. We have always – and will continue to – support all our Craven Week and Youth Week Teams.
However, it is of paramount importance that we enforce and adhere to good governance principles, and in the light thereof, we decided to take this course of action”.
