A lot of nasty comments are being made about the EP Rugby Union management and the current financial mess that EP Rugby is in. Players and staff have not been paid and run the real risk of losing their homes, cars and possessions as some of them struggle to put food on the table.
The crisis only gets worse as Daniel Cheeky Watson flies all over the world trying to put that elusive R200 Million sponsorship deal together.
A word from the wise to Cheeky; “Negotiate from a point of strength which you do not have now. Businessmen are hard nosed sharks who can smell blood and fear in the water and will take advantage. You lost your advantage when you allowed these financial problems to overwhelm the union and the only way forward now is to be brutally honest with the public. You should have taken the Mandela Kings offer – #JustSaying.”
Now everyone is attacking tha man and not the problem. The problem is a simple one – find money to allow currently contracted players and essential staff to survive and retain a bit of dignity until the mess is sorted out.
A problem shared is a problem solved.
Unfortunately for you though, Cheeky, your mates at Afriforum have taken the initiative and established the EP Kings Player’s Fund.
The Eastern Province Kings Player’s Fund is an initiative started by NMBRA and Afriforum PE.
The NMBRA say; “We believe prevention is better than cure and over the last few months it has become clear that if a player’s fund was in place to support our beloved Kings, the situation of players leaving in difficult times to bigger or more stable unions could have been prevented.”
“SARU has announced that they would step in and take over the administration of the Super Rugby leg of the Kings and ensure that players are paid in due time. Until then, while players prepare for the 2016 Super Rugby Championship, it is essential to bring some form of financial assistance to players who need to make use of this fund,” concluded the NMBRA
The EP Kings Players Fund will be administered by Brown, Braude Vlok Inc.
