General Motors South Africa (GMSA) announced the appointment of Elvis Mongezi Hermans as the General Manager Human Resources, Government Relations Public Policy effective 1 April 2015.
This new position came about with the departure of Chris Thexton who will be joining Vauxhall in the United Kingdom as HR Director after more than 25 years with the company.
Hermans joined GMSA last year as the manager of Government Relations and Public Policy. In his new role he will be responsible for both portfolios. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge to this position with 29 years’ experience in various organisations, including 16 years at British American Tobacco (BAT), in a combination of Human Resources and Government Relations roles. He also worked in local government in Stellenbosch for 11 years
The people focused 50 year old said he is looking forward to the challenges ahead and to ensuring that the employees remain a core focus of the business. “I believe that people are the catalyst in any organisation and I am pleased that GM has well established employee development programmes in place and a team of experienced HR professionals,” said Hermans.
He has a Diploma in Local Government from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Hill University in the USA. Having completed a leadership development programme at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) at the University of Pretoria, he is currently working towards his MBA through GIBS.
