Several suspects are expected in various courts in Port Elizabeth soon after they were arrested by police over the weekend for crimes the include robbery, malicious damage to property, drug possession and drunk driving.
“A total of eight suspects were arrested for various crimes including three for robbery, one for Malicious Damage to Property, one for shoplifting, two possession of drugs, and one for drunk driving,” police said.
“On Saturday, at about 14:40, a complainant was driving his taxi in Cleary Park when three unknown men signaled him to stop.
“The trio robbed the taxi driver at gun-point and fled with cash.”
Police said that a passing police vehicle stopped and assisted the taxi driver after which he was taken to Algoa Park police station to open a case.
“The suspects were subsequently arrested by SAPS Algoa Park members and members from Visible Gang Intervention Team.”
Meanwhile, several high density patrols, as well as stop and search operations, were held in Gelvandale and Bethelsdorp.
“During the stop and searches, dagga (bompies and loose dagga) was confiscated,” police said, adding that; “Two people were arrested for possession of drugs.”
The SAPS Algoa Park also held operations at various suspected drug hotspots at Dolfyn, Kudu and Impala Flats as well as in Missionvale were illicit alcohol was confiscated.
