THE Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, in partnership with the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC) hosted its Enterprise Development (ED) Programme Graduation recently.
This year, the graduation ceremony was addressed by a former beneficiary of the Enterprise Development Programme, Port Elizabeth businesswoman Violet Lupuwana.
The owner of Chumile Consulting, Lupuwana is a dynamic and passionate entrepreneur with vast expertise in lean manufacturing, industrial engineering, B-BBEE, project management, consulting, coaching, training and facilitation. She is an experienced and empowering business and life coach.
As a former graduate of the programme, Lupuwana was the perfect guest speaker to motivate the most recent graduates from this multifaceted programme which combines mentorship and skills training programmes to develop small businesses.
The main sponsor of the current phase of the Business Chamber’s ED programme, which commenced in November last year, is the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC).
“The programme is as a result of engagement and collaboration between ECDC and the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber. It was conceptualised as a response to a need for a more focused and long-term business development intervention. In the long-term, it should result in the profitability and sustainability of business.”
“The programme is aimed at assisting business to be more market-ready and improve opportunities to access finance. It is implemented in partnership with the Business Chamber in order to create a platform for interaction and potential networking between big and small business. Participants and graduates from the programme have an opportunity to participate in the broader Business Chamber network platform. Furthermore, they become a quality pipeline for further support by ECDC,” says ECDC Enterprise Development Senior Manager, Mpumelelo Fundam.
A key outcome of the ED Programme is enabling participants to be market ready, growing their businesses and creating sustainable jobs while providing participants with supportive and effective mentoring. The programme achieves this through offering an effective combination of skills development as well as combining core and elective courses through classroom training, soft skills and informational workshops.
“A variety of educational and informative workshops have been made available to the participants and they have certainly shown an overall positive commitment and are mostly people who are facing challenges to keep their businesses on a positive path of growth, in the prevailing business environment,” said Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber Operations Manager, Prince Matonsi.
Matonsi also thanked another significant partner, MetroWind, for supporting the ED Programme.
The next phase of the ED Programme will commence in July 2017.
