Former professional boxer and the International Boxing Organisation’s Africa ambassador, Vuyani “The Beast” Bungu, has sourced some of the best amateur boxers to participate in a mini, outdoor boxing tournament at the People’s Port Festival taking place in Port Elizabeth on March 25th and 26th.
A popular national and international sporting personality, Bungu is a believer in the benefits of boxing not only physically, but for society. He says: “Boxing balances mind, body and soul; and helps develop social and life skills such as being considerate, trustworthiness, respect of others and discipline.”
Available to watch for free as part of the weekend festivities, the tournament is to be held in the on Quay 3 – between shed 11 and 12 – at the Port of Port Elizabeth.
The port is a gateway to a host of leisure activities, and a place to create memories and unique experiences, remarks Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) Port Manager for the Port of Port Elizabeth, Rajesh Dana. “Sport is vital for a wholesome life, and it plays an important role in port life and operations. Sport creates unity, discipline and a sense of belonging for people who sometimes spend months at a time at sea.”
