Just when things were going swimmingly and we felt that warm and fuzzy feeling towards the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium returning, DSTV Doesn’t Care managed to c*ck it all up for us.
On the back of two long weeks looking after sailors at the 60th SAP 5O5 World Championships, which ended on Friday night, it was with a certain amount of trepidation that the Longhair and I viewed the clock counting down to 2:00 pm on Saturday – the start of the #DStviRockEbhayi event at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. That was when the warm and fuzzy feeling towards the Stadium got better and better.
Only to be dashed at around 10:00 pm when the thump thump from the event began penetrating the walls of our home overlooking the stadium and DSTV threw the residents around the stadium the middle finger.
With the event advertised as being an all nighter ending at 6:00 am on Sunday you can imagine that we did not have many Christian thoughts about DSTV or the stadium for that matter.
I toddled on down to the stadium to ask for the Noise Certificate and proof of readings only to be told that the organiser of the event refused to turn the music down and that the SAPS had been called to force him/her/it to comply – as I write this at midnight I can still hear thump thump though.
Standing outside the venue I realised that my concerns paled into significance compared to the neighbours on the perimeter of the stadium – how they get to sleep at all is anyone’s guess. Apparently they signed a piece of paper giving away their right to a decent night’s sleep! Remind me the next time I want to shoot at someone to get them to sign a piece of paper saying that they give me permission to do so as it seems quite alright to get people to sign away their rights.
The DSTV (doesn’t) Care number is only available until 11:00 pm so I did the next best thing and Tweeted them the following messages:
You have certainly proved that you don’t care @DStvCare – thanks for waking me up with your excessive noise at the NMB Stadium, PE.

@MyPE You are extremely arrogant and should not be advocating your love for #portelizabeth whilst blogging the way you do.

@peblspe So sad to hear that – engaging with one another is what makes us learn more about each other and have a meeting of minds.
