Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Deputy Executive Mayor Thando Ngcolomba congratulated the multi-award winning local community radio station Nkqubela FM on its tenth birthday today.
“We are extremely proud of the achievements of Station Manager Xolani Yisaka and his team at the Zwide-based radio station as they managed to build a loyal listenership from nothing to approximately 139 000 which is considerably higher than its nearest competitors.
“Keep on working hard to make sure that your station informs the community fairly, accurately and bring some much needed entertainment to our suburbs.
“I am happy that efforts are put in place to work closer with Nkqubela FM to ensure that the municipality keep its residents informed and respond adequately to issues raised by the community on the different programmes aimed at highlighting municipal-related matters.
“I can assure you that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality supports media diversity and development especially community media to broaden media ownership and to give more groupings of society a platform to raise their voices and to work towards the development of their suburbs.
“I am aware that you won the community division of the national MTN Radio Awards last year and that you also scooped regional awards over the years. I hope that your success will continue and that you will carry on your meaningful role in society,” said Deputy Executive Mayor Ngcolomba.
