Port Elizabeth woke up to a partly cloudy Saturday morning after the little bit of Friday rain and the Rover Motocross track was definitely ready to play host to the first round of the Monster Energy TRP Distributors South African Motocross Nationals. The day kicked with off with a practice round and we saw riders settling in to the sandy track rather quickly and set some really impressive times with Ross Branch setting the fastest time of 2.01.378 in practice in the MX2 class.
Ripping up the field in style on his Red Bull KTM 450f beast, Kerim Fitzgerald came through the track and posted a 1.56.895 during MX1 qualifying which stayed the fasted lap of the day.
Returning to the world of racing is Monster Energys’ Michael Kok, who definitely made his presence felt on and off the track. He posted a great time of 1.57.647 in qualifying and he finished 4th in heat 1 of MX1 to leave himself in a great position for tomorrow.
It was a perfect start to the yearly calendar and with the same weather predicted for Sunday we going to see riders arriving early for practice a lot of eager fans getting out to support their local heros and keeping the sport of Motocross alive in South Africa.
