The Democratic Alliance Students’ Organisation (DASO) has achieved a landslide victory in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan University (NMMU) SRC elections. DASO received two thirds of the vote (66%), up from just over 50% last year.
I would like to thank the NMMU members of DASO for their hard work and congratulate the students of NMMU for choosing the party of redress, reconciliation, delivery and diversity.
This result means that, in the space of just three years, DASO has quadrupled its representation at NMMU. The DA now has 16 of the 21 seats in the SRC, up from 4 in 2010 and 11 in 2011.
In the last year, NMMU students have experienced DA delivery for the first time ever, and have responded with overwhelming support. These results are a ringing endorsement of the excellent work done by the DASO-run SRC.
More and more voters, and especially young voters, from all backgrounds and from all over the country, are voting for change. This trend was not only evident at NMMU, but also in by-elections across the country yesterday. These election results are a sign of things to come.
Mmusi Maimane, DA National Spokesperson
