Today, PE College students go to the polls to elect a new Student Representative Council (SRC), with the Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (DASO) confident of victory.
The results are likely to be released after 21:00 this evening.
Tertiary institutions around the country are experiencing waves of unrest as a result of poor and absent leadership.
Minister Blade Nzimande is nowhere to be found and many SRCs are directionless in dealing with students’ needs.
Conversely, we have seen the DASO-led Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) SRC navigate students through an obstacle course of issues over the past few weeks. Impasses relating to funding and accommodation are well on their way to being resolved directly as a result of the mediation efforts of the DASO-led NMMU SRC.
This DASO good governance has prevented unnecessary violence and unrest at NMMU and can be replicated here at PE College.
Today’s PE College SRC election is an opportunity for students to vote in an SRC that is accountable, responsible and proactive.
More and more people, young and old, are turning to the DA, to elect governments that deliver. We saw students recently remove ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe from a Buffalo City College campus as a stern rejection of the ANC and SASCO’s endless broken promises.
The tide is fast turning.
As DASO forges on to victory here at PE College, so too does the DA in Nelson Mandela Bay. South Africans are ready for better service delivery, cutting corruption and job creation.
The DA is ready to govern.
