The Executive Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, Cllr Danny Jordaan, has joined the mother of one of the Idols Top Six finalists, Loyiso Gijana, in an appeal to all residents of Nelson Mandela Bay and the people of the Eastern Province to give local hopeful Loyiso their full support in his quest to bag the win and become the South African Idol for 2015.
The institution’s Communications Subdirectorate has already roused all municipal staff to back the 16-year-old son of Uitenhage to make it to Idols Top 5.
The Speaker of the Eastern Cape legislature, Noxolo Kiviet, was also asked to appeal to residents attending a meeting of the Legislature held at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s Missionvale Campus on Tuesday, 20 October 2015 to vote for the young man.
Mayoral Committee member for Youth, Sport, arts and Culture, Cllr Andiswa Mama, will be in Johannesburg on Sunday to represent the residents of the Bay in supporting Loyiso in reaching the Top Five.
The Executive Mayor, Cllr Danny Jordaan said, “It is imperative to make sure that we support our youth, especially those who have talent. I will engage with the Arts and Culture MEC of the Eastern Cape, Pemmy Majodina, to also come on board in making sure that Loyiso’s dream becomes a reality. Loyiso is just an sms away from reaching his dream. So let’s make sure we make his dream come true!”
Loyiso’s mother, Nompilo Mange, said, “Loyiso is a remarkable young man who is passionate about music. He attends the Assemblies of God Church and is doing well at school. Loyiso has done well on Idols so far, but I urge Nelson Mandela Bay residents to vote for him: SMS his unique number – 09 – to 34700, or download WeChat and add the Idols SA account using ID: idolssa. I’m also very grateful that the Mayor’s Office will sponsor my trip to the Idols show in Johannesburg this Sunday to support my son.”
Loyiso’s grandmother Masithathu Prime said, “I spotted Loyiso’s singing talent when he was only four. And now he’s sharing his talent and beautiful voice with the entire South Africa. I’m very happy for him and wish him all the best.”
Mayoral Committee member for the Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture Portfolio, Cllr Andiswa Mama, said, “We thank the idols judges for identifying Loyiso’s talent and give him a chance to be a contestant on Idols. However, as the Metro our duty is to vote for him, because its not only talent that keeps a person in the competition, but also votes. I am confident that he’s going to make the Top Five, after which we will launch a massive campaign for him. We as Councillors have also started to vote for him and will continue to do so.”
